Brewerwith a contribution on the bindings by Michael Gullick. The Library’s collections. Get this from a library. A descriptive catalogue of the medieval manuscripts in Worcester Cathedral Library.

[Rodney M Thomson; Michael Gullick; Worcester Cathedral. Library.]. Worcester Cathedral Library contains medieval manuscripts, the largest number of any English cathedral except Durham. Most of them belonged to the pre-Reformation Cathedral Priory and date between the eleventh and late fifteenth centuries.

The collection has never been adequately catalogued before, and is consequently little known; much of the contents of the books, their physical features. A Descriptive Catalogue of the Medieval Manuscripts in Worcester Cathedral Library July 1 colour, 92 black and white, 6 line illustrations pages x cm ISBN: Format: Hardback   R odney Thomson's record of completion of catalogues of medieval manuscript books is remarkable for the quantity, rapidity, and standard of his achievement: Lincoln and Hereford Cathedrals (both of secular clergy), Worcester (originally monastic), and now Merton College, a much different academic collection, all published within twenty years (–), and his work on each done in Author: A.

Doyle. Worcester Cathedral Library contains nearly medieval manuscripts, printed books, archival documents. The aim of this blog is to open up the fascinating collection of a Medieval English Cathedral to the wider world.

This catalogue describes MSS and in the Chapter Library of Lincoln Cathedral, plus ten former Lincoln MSS now elsewhere. About half of the MSS were part of the cathedral's medieval Library; nearly all the rest came there before the late seventeenth century.

This is the sixth catalogue of historic British collections of medieval manuscripts from the pen of Rodney Thomson, who has thereby become the leading manuscript scholar in this field, as well as the quickest worker, and the true successor of Neil Ker, who raised the art of manuscript cataloguing to a thoroughly professional level.

Worcester Cathedral Library and Archive The library and archive has been an integral part of the life of Worcester Cathedral since Anglo-Saxon times.

It exists to facilitate research by scholars, is a resource for cathedral staff carrying out repair work on the building, and for relevant local and family history enquiries by members of the public.

The Cathedral Library at Worcester, located since the 19th century in the loft above the South Nave, contains nearly medieval manuscripts, 55 incunabula, and post-medieval printed books. Of particular note are the Worcester Antiphoner (the only book of its kind to survive the Reformation), the will of King John and a copy of Magna.
